Items we need now

Support our work

COVID-19 has altered things for all types of businesses, but what hasn’t changed is the need for medical care for injured wild birds so business in our Avian Medical Clinic continues as usual. In fact, yesterday we admitted 16 raptors transferred from
Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, one of a few fellow wildlife organizations that have continued to accept new patients. Because of these transfers, we reached a new admit record in the clinic - the most birds admitted in one day!
Though things are more than difficult for all organizations who are continuing to care for injured and orphaned wildlife right now, the challenges we are facing have also highlighted the ways in which organizations can help support and aid each other. It is imperative that we do what we can for each other so we can all continue to do what is best for the birds and wildlife in need.
We often mention how important our community is to this work, and this situation is a great example of how expansive and generous this community can be! You can easily support this important work by donating on Palmetto Giving Day.

Help Our Birds

We were very excited to receive this package of much-needed bandaging and splinting material and essential medicine we utilize to treat ectoparasite infestations. Thank you!
If you are able, please consider purchasing an item off of our Amazon Wishlist:
It’s a great way to be able to support the work we do here at the Avian Conservation Center and Center for Birds of Prey. Items include spray bottles, hoses, and hose nozzles for cleaning our enclosures, radios for communication between staff and volunteers across our large campus, as well as incubators and essential medical equipment needed to care for our patients.
We have items to fit any budget, and any donations are appreciated. Some of our most pressing needs are bandaging materials, such as Telfa non-adherent dressing, 3x3 gauze pads, and trifectant.
Especially in this time of social distance, we are exceedingly grateful for the community we have in our supporters. We could not do this work without you!

How you help The Center relies on the generous support of more than 300 volunteers who, through the generous gift of their time and talent, make our work possible. Since its beginning, the Avian Conservation Center and The Center for Birds of Prey has relied on Volunteer Staff members to carry out its mission of providing medical treatment for injured birds of prey and shorebirds, presenting educational programs to thousands of people throughout the state, and conducting avian research and field studies that benefit South Carolina and the entire nation. Whether working with injured wild birds of prey in the Avian Medical Clinic or with resident birds in the Education Department, extensive training and experience are critical to your success. A progressive training program, including educational workshops, hands-on experience and one-on-one mentor shadowing enable Volunteer Staff members to increase their knowledge and expand skills on a continuing basis.
About us Founded out of an acute awareness for the need of an avian conservation center in South Carolina, the Charleston Raptor Center was formally incorporated as a 501(c)3 organization in September 1991. The Center’s name was changed to the South Carolina Center for Birds of Prey in 1995 to better reflect an expanded scope of programs and services. With continued growth and reach, the Avian Conservation Center was established in 2004 as an “umbrella” organization to accommodate distinctive educational, medical, scientific and conservation disciplines within the organization. These operating divisions are: the Center for Birds of Prey; the Avian Medical Center; and the South Carolina Oil Spill Treatment Facility.
